1. About these terms
These terms apply to every Dutch lesson I give through Doe Maar Dutch, whether one-to-one or two-to-one, in person or online, and to your use of the Doe Maar Dutch student portal. By booking a lesson with me, you agree to these terms.
2. Lessons and prices
I offer:
- One-to-one lessons: €35 per hour.
- Two-to-one lessons: €25 per hour, per person. Both people should be at a similar level.
Lessons are possible in person or online. The current prices are always on the pricing page of my website.
Prices may change. I will always let you know about a price change before the lesson it applies to.
When we start, we agree on a minimum of 10 lessons. If you decide to stop within your first three lessons, you only pay for the lessons you have had. After your third lesson, the full minimum of 10 lessons is due, even if you stop earlier.
If you stop after your third lesson, I will send one final invoice for the remaining lessons of the minimum. This does not apply in exceptional circumstances, such as serious illness or a death in the family. In that case, you only pay for the lessons you have already had.
For two-to-one lessons, the minimum of 10 lessons applies to the pair together. If one of you stops after the third lesson, that person pays their own share of the remaining lessons of the minimum.
3. Booking and lesson times
We agree on the date, time and length of each lesson together, by email, WhatsApp or in person.
Please be on time. If you arrive late or log in late, the lesson still ends at the agreed time and the full lesson is charged. If I am late, the missed time is added to the end of the lesson.
Online lessons take place through Microsoft Teams. You make sure you have a working internet connection, camera and microphone.
4. Cancelling a lesson
If you cancel:
- Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before the start of the lesson.
- If you cancel later than that, or you do not show up, the full lesson is charged.
If I cancel:
- You pay nothing, and we schedule a new lesson together.
Two-to-one lessons: each person follows the rules above for their own share. If one person cancels in time and the other still wants a lesson, we can either move the lesson or go ahead as a one-to-one lesson at the one-to-one price.
5. Payment
- You pay afterwards. At the end of each month I send you one invoice for the lessons of that month.
- Please pay within 14 days of the invoice date.
- If an invoice is not paid on time, I will send you a reminder. If it still is not paid, I may pause our lessons until it is settled.
You can also find your invoices in the student portal.
6. Books and Code+
I use the Code+ books as a guideline in my lessons. Using Code+ is optional: we can also have lessons without the book.
If you choose to use Code+, you buy the book yourself, at your own cost, from the publisher or a bookshop. The same goes for access to the Code+ online portal. I am not responsible for the Code+ book or the Code+ portal, for example their content, price, availability or any technical problems.
7. The student portal
As my student you get a personal account on the Doe Maar Dutch portal. There you can see your lessons, notes and debriefs, homework, materials I share with you, your own word list (Mijn woorden) and your invoices.
- Your account is personal. Please keep your login details to yourself and do not let anyone else use your account.
- You can log in with an email address and password, or with your Google account.
- If you think someone else has access to your account, let me know straight away.
- When you stop taking lessons, you keep access to the portal for 3 months, so you can download anything you want to keep. Before your access ends, you can also ask me for a copy of your personal word list (Mijn woorden), and I will send it to you. After that, your access ends.
- I do my best to keep the portal online and working, but I cannot promise it will always be available without interruption.
8. Your word list
In the portal you can build your own personal word list (Mijn woorden). I may take words from your personal word list and add them to the general word list in the portal, so other students can learn them too.
This is always anonymous. Only the word itself (with things like its translation, level or theme) is added. Your name or anything else that could identify you is never added or shown.
9. My teaching materials
The materials I make myself, such as word cards, grammar explanations, scenarios, exercises and lesson notes, belong to me. You may use them for your own learning. Please do not share, copy, publish or sell them to anyone else.
10. Links to other websites
My lesson materials sometimes link to grammar pages and other public websites made by other people. I do not own these websites and I am not responsible for their content, or for whether they are still online.
11. Stopping your lessons
Once you have completed the minimum of 10 lessons, you can stop at any time. There is no notice period: just let me know. Lessons that have already taken place, including late cancellations, are still invoiced.
I may also stop our lessons, for example if invoices remain unpaid or if working together is no longer a good fit. I will always tell you in good time and explain why. If I stop our lessons, you only pay for the lessons you have already had, not the rest of the minimum of 10.
12. Liability
I put a lot of care into my lessons, but learning a language depends on many things. I cannot promise a particular result, such as passing an exam (for example the integration exam or NT2).
If something does go wrong and I am liable for it, my liability is limited to the amount invoiced for the lesson or lessons it concerns. This limit does not apply if the damage was caused on purpose or by gross negligence on my part.
I am not liable for problems caused by things outside my control, such as an internet outage, a problem with a video call service or with third-party websites.
13. Privacy
I treat your personal information with care. My separate Privacy Statement explains what I store, why, how long I keep it and what your rights are.
14. Changes to these terms
I may update these terms from time to time. If I make a change that matters to you, I will let you know by email or through the portal before it takes effect. The new terms then apply to lessons booked after that date.
15. Applicable law
Dutch law applies to these terms. If we ever disagree, I would like to talk and find a solution together first.
16. Questions
For any question about these terms, email me at [email protected].
