About me
I was born in Scotland to a Scottish father and a Dutch mother, but I grew up in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands. Growing up between different cultures and languages has shaped my curiosity about people, communication, and the ways we connect with each other.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology, as well as a Master’s degree in Migration Studies. My studies have deepened my interest in culture, identity, and the experiences of people who move between countries.
For the past two years, I have worked as a language tutor and language coach, supporting migrants in Amsterdam with learning Dutch and building confidence in their new environment. This experience has taught me the importance of patience, clear explanations, and adapting my approach to each individual learner.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy making ceramics and climbing. I love being creative and learning new skills. Maybe you can teach me some phrases in your language as well?
My teaching style
Having learned several languages myself, I understand how daunting it can be to express yourself in a new language. That’s why my lessons are relaxed, practical, and focused on helping you feel comfortable using Dutch from day one.
We’ll learn by doing, with lessons tailored to the situations you want to feel confident in. Whether you want to improve your speaking skills, expand your vocabulary, or prepare for exams such as the integration exam or NT2, we’ll focus on your personal goals.
I am patient, explain concepts in different ways, and create a supportive environment where you can ask questions and make mistakes. In short, my goal is to help you make steady progress and enjoy the process of learning Dutch.
Code+
Code+ comes with around 2 to 3 hours of homework a week, but it takes you to the next level in a structured way. Prefer less self-study? We can also have classes without the book. Progress will likely be slower, but it is a good option if you want to focus on one specific topic rather than improving your Dutch across the board.
